Traveling Through History in France

france2010

This trip is a completely unique and extraordinary way of experiencing France. Based on the book The Road from the Past, by Ina Caro, this trip begins in the south of France where the Roman legionnaires built their retirement lifestyle. From the grandeur of Pont du Gard, we travel in time to Carcassonne and experience the early middle ages and the setting for the Cathar movement and the royal troubadours who were instrumental in the development of Western literature. Then, we continue onto the Dordogne river valley and the 100 years war where the English and French faced off across the river in a feudal struggle for lands. At the moment of greatest despair comes a woman in the form of Jean of Arc, and we follow in her footsteps to the city of Chinon. Finally, we end up in Amboise and the Loire Valley to see the development of the Renaissance, the influence of Leonardo da Vinci, and the rise of some of the most beautiful castles in the world. (Fly into Marseille, France, and out of Paris, France.)
